Cavan is a neighborhood restaurant and bar housed within a historic mansion on the corner of a picturesque block of Magazine Street. Lafayette-born Executive Chef Ben Thibodeaux’s modern American menu celebrates the flavors of our nation’s coasts, and features dishes like Fried Oyster Toast, Peel & Eat Shrimp and Daily Gumbo as well as inspired takes on farm, fish & fowl and snacks including Hushpuppies with Whipped Lardo and Waffle Fries with Malt Aïoli. Our bar philosophy is rooted in the idea that great wine is meant to be shared. Sommelier Isaiah Estell has carefully compiled an extensive, creative list of accessibly priced yet high quality wines intended to be enjoyed among friends and family old and new.
We offer seating in either of our two large dining rooms, separated by a grand spiral staircase, or at either of their full-service bars, as well as within a private room accommodating parties up to 10 guests, or out on our Magazine Street-facing front porch and patio. The restaurant’s name is an homage to owner Robért LeBlanc’s Irish ancestry; his maternal great-great-grand grandfather immigrated from County Cavan, Ireland to New Orleans’ Irish Channel in 1854, and that is where our restaurant resides today.
Cavan offers dinner seven nights a week starting at 5pm, brunch Friday-Sunday, and weekday happy hour specials from 4-6pm.
